Blue Valentine

Blue Valentine (2010)

The 2010 film, The Crossroads (released to theaters in 2012), has one of the more interesting takes on life’s “adjustments” that you’ll ever see. Although romantic, it’s also a gritty look at the futility of trying to cope with life when human emotions take over. It revolves around a married couple (Cameron Diaz and Val Kilmer) who find themselves in a constant state of pain even before they begin their “divorce” proceedings. There are two time periods in this movie: one covering the past few years of their relationship and another covering their marriage itself. The first section reveals how their relationship began and evolved into what it is today; while the second section shows how it ended when they actually decided to separate in order to regain control over themselves. This film also has some interesting side-note elements that make it worth watching once again in theaters just to enjoy all the performances involved, including Robert DeNiro who plays a role similar to that of his character Tony Montana from Scarface.
